Add on/ Certificate Course

The Department of psychology at St Xavier’s college, Jaipur collaborated with the Hr’ O Hour for Certificate Course on Psychotherapy Practitioner Course: Advanced Level and Expert Level for the students of the Department of Psychology students. The classes were organised in blended form (online and offline both). The certificate course covered topics like Hypnotherapy, Positive Psychotherapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. The course was designed to enhance the overall understanding of the students All the Courses were accredited by International Association of Therapist, (IAOTAH) and internationally accredited and globally accepted. After the successful completion of the course, a hard copy of the Certificate, as well as an electronic copy of the Letter of Recommendation and Letter of Performance, was delivered. 

InPsych Department Fest

Department of Psychology at St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur. Hosted on the 21st of November 2022, with the tag of “Well being of the living being”, the fest was centred around the idea of promoting access to mental health and well being as a global priority. This fest put a light on enriching young minds through a perfect blend of theoretical and applied knowledge in line with the demands of the contemporary world. The opening ceremony was followed by a speech by the Chief Guest of the event, Ms. Deepak Kalra, Founder of Umang Foundation. This was followed by a panel discussion with prominent faces of the psychological community and a series of fun events for the participants. During the Closing Ceremony, winners of respective events were announced. The evening was brought to an end with the highlight of a cultural celebration and dance featuring the renowned DJ artist Neel Chabra. 

Open Mic

The first ever open mic events were organised to promote the department fest, InPsych during the session 2022-23. They were held at various public locales by the students of the Department of Psychology for the promotion of InPsych. These events were promoted through word of mouth and saw eager participation by not only students of the college but also local musicians,  budding stand up comedians and artists. Various acts such as heartfelt poetry, singing, sharing of stories were put up amid supportive and cheerful audiences. Open mic events allow an opportunity for various individuals to express themselves freely, gain a sense of connection with their community, be exposed to various thoughts and perspectives, gain inspiration from others, obtain feedback on certain skills, and celebrate our differences. Most importantly, such events are full of fun and enjoyment, in an easygoing environment. We hope to continue to provide such opportunities to our students. 

InQUIZitive

This National level online quiz event is organised by the Department of Psychology in collaboration with the Mental Health and Counselling Cell (MHCC) at St Xavier's College, Jaipur. 'InQUIZitive'  was conceived to probe into the fundamental yet versatile knowledge that the students of classes 11th and 12th possessed, pertaining to the field of Psychology. The second edition of the buoyant competition 'InQUIZitive- The Game of Psych' was held online in two rounds on 10th and 15th October 2022. More than 200 students across the nation had registered to compete in this 'Game of Psych'. The event took place in the form of four elimination based rounds. Students of Bal Bharti School, Noida picked up the title of the winners whereas the runner up was awarded to students of Neerja Modi School, Jaipur. 

Orientation

The main purpose of a good orientation session in a college is to bridge the gap between the professors and the students, ensuring a smooth communication between the two. Keeping this in mind, an orientation programme was designed to answer all the potential queries of the incoming batch of students.

Department Orientation: The Department of Psychology, organised an Orientation Program for the freshmen of the session 2022-2023, on the 14th of September. This one-day event was an initiative to create a rapport between the fresh-out of high school students and the faculty of the department. The emcees for the event started off the program welcoming the students and giving an insight into the adventures that college life had in store for them. 

MHCC orientation: The Mental health and counselling cell (MHCC) organised an orientation program for the undergraduate students of St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur, for the academic session 2022-23 on the 30th September, 2022. MHCC comprises a team of faculty members from the Department of Psychology as well as an external counsellor available as per requirement. 

Workshop

In an effort to encourage and motivate students to learn about new topics, a range of workshops are organised to meet leaders in their field and gain information about their way of work or how things take place. Hands-on experiences such as these can go a long way to help the student. The Department in collaboration with Mental Health and Counselling Cell (MHCC) organised a two days workshop on projective techniques, held on 27 and 28th January 2023. The workshop was based on the Rorschach Inkblot Test and Thematic Apperception Test in collaboration with Mind Eye Solutions Private Limited (Gurgaon) at St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur. The resource person of the workshop was Dr Deepika Meena, Clinical Psychologist (NIMHANS). 

Expert Lectures

Emotional Intelligence: An expert session on Emotional Intelligence was organised by the Department of Psychology in collaboration with the Mental Health and Counselling Cell (MHCC), St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur on 14th September, 2022. The resource person for this webinar was Dr. Sarthak Dave, a consultant psychiatrist and founder of Vibha Psychiatry Hospital in Ahmedabad, Gurjat. Dr. Dave talked about the role of pharmacotherapy in psychotherapy, followed by discussion on societal perceptions associated with mental health issues and how to deal with them in an emotionally intelligent manner.

Epilepsy: An expert session on Epilepsy was organised by the Department of Psychology in collaboration with the Mental Health and Counselling Cell (MHCC) on National Epilepsy Day by Dr Sakshi Gupta on 29th November 2022. Dr Gupta is a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist and Founder of "The Healing Clinic". She has done her MBBS, MD Psychiatry from Lady Hardinge Medical College, Delhi and her Senior Residency from GMCH, Chandigarh. She has previously served as District Psychiatrist and Nodal Officer at Mata Kaushalya Hospital in Patiala. This virtual address was used to inform the students about the nature of the chronic disease, how to prevent it, its signs and symptoms and its cure. This was followed by a question and answer round with the audience. 

Social Outreach

Social outreach helps communities function better together. The Department of Psychology at St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur recognizes the importance of sharing appropriate resources with individuals who might be in need of them. 

Garv Ke Din: An awareness session on menstrual health and hygiene was organised by the Department of Psychology and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) for the women of village Narottampura and Chak Harbanspura in Jaisinghpura on the 28th September, 2022. The purpose of organising the program was to spread awareness about the importance of Menstrual Health and Hygiene for the women and girls of village Narottampura and Chak Harbanspura in Jaisinghpura and to provide essential products related to menstrual hygiene to the village women. The event was organised in a local school and several girls of the school, their mothers and sisters along with other village women attended the event.

Poster Making Competition: The Gender Study and Women’s Cell of St Xavier’s College - Jaipur, in collaboration with the Mental Health and Counselling Cell, organised a poster-making competition on 25 January, 2023 on the theme of ‘Acceptance and Integration of LGBTQ+ Individuals into Mainstream Society’. This competition was held with the aim to create awareness among the students regarding sensitive issues related to gender, sexuality, and identity. A brief visit to the Nai Bhor Sanstha NGO saw several students participating and creating additional posters as a token of their support. These posters created by the students were donated for use by Nai Bhor Sanstha in their upcoming “Queer Gulabi Pride 2023” celebrations. 

Industrial/ Field Visit

A visit for the faculty and students from St. Xavier's College, Jaipur was organised to Manipal University Jaipur by the Department of Psychology, St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur, in order to attend a workshop on “Protection of Children from Sexual Offences” (POCSO). The delegation embarked on the visit from the college premises on 16th February 2023. The workshop was an educational event for various stakeholders aimed to provide training regarding implementation of POCSO in the educational setting. The resource person of the workshop was Dr. Nisha Grover (Psychologist and POCSO Trainer), who gave a detailed insight about POCSO, its ethical implementation, its loopholes and how to tackle them, among other issues. 

Cognizance

The first ever edition of the Department of Psychology magazine, “Cognizance” is due this session. Cognizance refers to knowledge or awareness. The aim of the magazine is to showcase different aspects of the world around us but from a psychological lens. This endeavour is spearheaded by the Departmental Student Body. 

Department Student Body

The Department of Psychology will also highlight the unique skills and abilities of its students by providing them with leadership based opportunities. The creation of a department student body will enable development of teamwork, sharpening and sharing individual strengths, logistics based problem solving skills and growth of personal autonomy and industry. The Department Student Body will take the lead to represent the students of the department, and will essentially be their voice. They may identify areas of particular interest of the students, help curate experiences of relevance and help foster a healthy connection between the students and the faculty. Certificates will be provided on the basis of participation.
