Add on/Certificate Courses

In addition to the curriculum approved by the University of Rajasthan, the Department of Psychology also offers a variety of Add On/Certificate Courses. 

Session 2022-23

The Department of psychology at St Xavier’s college, Jaipur collaborated with the Hr’ O Hour for Certificate Course on Psychotherapy Practitioner Course: Advanced Level and Expert Level for the students of the Department of Psychology students. The classes were organised in blended form (online and offline both). The certificate course covered topics like Hypnotherapy, Positive Psychotherapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. The course was designed to enhance the overall understanding of the students All the Courses were accredited by International Association of Therapist, (IAOTAH) and internationally accredited and globally accepted. After the successful completion of the course, a hard copy of the Certificate, as well as an electronic copy of the Letter of Recommendation and Letter of Performance, was delivered.

Session 2021-22

The Department of Economics and Psychology at St. Xavier's College, Jaipur in collaboration with Counsel India organized a 45 hours Certificate Course on ‘Science of Happiness’ from 17th November 2021 to 14th December 2021. Through assignments, recorded video lectures and live interactive classes, this programme was centered around imparting knowledge outside the traditional set up of a classroom. The students participating in this programme, had an opportunity to converse with a diverse group of successful psychologists across the nation. As the course wrapped up, many students reported to have inculcated a relatively comprehensive understanding of the field, rendering the program a memorable experience. 

Mental Health and Counselling Cell (MHCC)

With the growing demands and concerns of students from all backgrounds, as well as their various requirements and ambitions, a holistic and comprehensive guidance system in the form of counselling services for university/college students' mental health and well-being is essential. Counseling is a procedure that tries to assist and guide students' personal well-being for a healthy mind and body through the support and guidance of experienced psychologists and counselors. With the goal of addressing and assisting the student community with emotional and psychological concerns, the Department of Psychology, St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur established a “Mental Health and Counselling Cell” under the aegis of the Department of Psychology in the academic session 2021-22. Various activities to promote mental health are organized through the cell throughout the year.  

Psychology Laboratory

Learning and development toward one's life goals require a supportive, stable, and stimulating psychosocial environment with access to adequate resources. The Department of Psychology Laboratory provides the students with the opportunity to stay updated with the various psychological assessments of human behaviour with the use of psychological testing for assessing personality, emotional intelligence, attitude and leadership among others. Moreover, the laboratory also comprises the necessary equipment for experiments on reaction time, memory, and forgetting among other human processes. It is fully updated with the demands of the University of Rajasthan Syllabus.

Department Fest

The first ever department festival, InPsych 2022 was organised by the Department of Psychology at St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur. Hosted on the 21st of November 2022, with the tag of “Well being of the living being”, the fest was centred around the idea of promoting access to mental health and well being as a global priority. This fest put a light on enriching young minds through a perfect blend of theoretical and applied knowledge in line with the demands of the contemporary world. 

The opening ceremony was followed by a speech by the Chief Guest of the event, Ms. Deepak Kalra, Founder of Umang Foundation. This was followed by a panel discussion with prominent faces of the psychological community and a series of fun events for the participants. During the Closing Ceremony, winners of respective events were announced. The evening was brought to an end with the highlight of a cultural celebration and dance featuring the renowned DJ artist Neel Chabra. 

Open Mic

Open mic events were organised at various public locales by the students of the Department of Psychology for the promotion of InPsych. These events were promoted through word of mouth and saw eager participation by not only students of the college but also local musicians,  budding stand up comedians and artists. Various acts such as heartfelt poetry, singing, sharing of stories were put up amid supportive and cheerful audiences. Open mic events allow an opportunity for various individuals to express themselves freely, gain a sense of connection with their community, be exposed to various thoughts and perspectives, gain inspiration from others, obtain feedback on certain skills, and celebrate our differences. Most importantly, such events are full of fun and enjoyment, in an easygoing environment. We hope to continue to provide such opportunities to our students.

InQUIZitive – The Game of Psych

This National level online quiz event is organized by the Department of Psychology in collaboration with the Mental Health and Counselling Cell (MHCC) at St Xavier's College, Jaipur. 'InQUIZitive'  was conceived to probe into the fundamental yet versatile knowledge that the students of classes 11th and 12th possessed, pertaining to the field of Psychology. 

Session 2022-23

The second edition of the buoyant competition 'InQUIZitive- The Game of Psych' was held online in two rounds on 10th and 15th October 2022. More than 200 students across the nation had registered to compete in this 'Game of Psych'. The event took place in the form of four elimination based rounds. Students of Bal Bharti School, Noida picked up the title of the winners whereas the runner up was awarded to students of Neerja Modi School, Jaipur.

Session 2021-22

The first edition of the buoyant competition 'InQUIZitive- The Game of Psych' was  organized by the Department of Economics and Psychology in collaboration with the Mental Health and Counselling Cell (MHCC) at St Xavier's College, Jaipur. It was held online on the 31st of January 2022 in which more than 200 students across the nation from eminent schools like Mayo College Ajmer, Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls’ School, The British School New Delhi, registered to compete in this 'Game of Psych'.

Orientation Sessions

The main purpose of a good orientation session in a college is to bridge the gap between the professors and the students, ensuring a smooth communication between the two. Keeping this in mind, an orientation programme was designed to answer all the potential queries of the incoming batch of students.

The annual seven day college level Orientation Program for the undergraduate students of the institution is an opportunity to facilitate the students' smooth transition to a new session. The Departments of Economics and Psychology jointly contributed to present information about their department. The major topics covered in the orientation included the Department Activities Calendar, Certificate Courses offered by the Departments, Bridge Courses, Mentor- Mentee System, Structure and Function of EcoSoc SXCJ, Internships and Placements, Mental Health and Counselling Cell, Department Magazine (Arthika) and Journal (Illuminatus), Student Appraisal Record Diary, Student Development Programme, Statutory Committees, Scholarships, Aanandam and UBA Programme.

Workshops

In an effort to encourage and motivate students to learn about new topics, a range of workshops are organized to meet leaders in their field and gain information about their way of work or how things take place. Hands-on experiences such as these can go a long way to help the student.

Session 2022-23

Projective Technique Workshop: The Department in collaboration with Mental Health and Counselling Cell (MHCC) organised a two days workshop on projective techniques, held on 27 and 28th January 2023. The workshop was based on the Rorschach Inkblot Test and Thematic Apperception Test in collaboration with Mind Eye Solutions Private Limited (Gurgaon) at St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur. The resource person of the workshop was Dr Deepika Meena, Clinical Psychologist (NIMHANS).

Symposium

The Department of Psychology along with the Department of Economics organized a Multi-disciplinary Symposium to bring out and further refine the research potential of the students.

Session 2020-21

The theme for this years’ Symposium was “Looking through Intermediate Lenses: Inclusive and Green Growth”. Dr. Aditi Sawant, Head, Department of Economics, St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, keynote speaker of the event, explained the need for private sector and the government to work mutually to achieve the goals of inclusive growth and also elaborated the opportunities available for developing an inclusive India by recognizing the key levers in the field of education, governance, energy and resources, healthcare, infrastructure and business model innovation.

World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day on the 10th of October is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries.

Session 2021-22

On Saturday, October 9th, 2021, the Department celebrated World Mental Health Day to raise awareness about mental health concerns around the world and mobilize action in support of mental health. This year's subject was "Metal Health in an Unequal World." Artistic Psyche - Poster Making Competition, Mental Health Minutes -Short Video Creation, and Mindnetic - Group Discussion were among the events that brought students from diverse universities and cities across India together. Group Discussion was facilitated by Ms Deepika Kapoor, Psychology Practitioner and Alumni of Tata Institute of Social Sciences. 

Session 2020-21

The Department of Psychology at St. Xavier's College, Jaipur planned an interactive session and webinar on 9th October 2020 to celebrate World Mental Health Day. The webinar was conducted by the eminent clinical psychologist, Ms. Pradnya Deshpande, a mental health professional who has been working to promote psychological wellbeing for over 20 years. Keeping the WHO theme of the year in consideration, which is, ‘Mental Health for All’, the session invited students to submit the emotional problems faced by them anonymously and gave them a forum to discuss these problems with a mental health professional and encourage different perspectives of understanding the problem and brainstorm possible solutions. Ms. Deshpande engaged the students thoroughly with her insightful tips of how to maintain positivity not just in these difficult times but throughout our lives, when we're faced with problems.

Social Outreach

Social outreach helps communities function better together. The Department of Psychology at St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur recognizes the importance of sharing appropriate resources with individuals who might be in need of them. 

Industrial/Field Visit

Field trip or industrial visit can enhance students’ critical thinking skills and give them a chance to think about a topic or theme from a different perspective. This allows them to get to know things which they typically would not have the opportunity to experience. 

Session 2022-23

A visit for the faculty and students from St. Xavier's College, Jaipur was organised to Manipal University Jaipur by the Department of Psychology, St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur, in order to attend a workshop on “Protection of Children from Sexual Offences” (POCSO). The delegation embarked on the visit from the college premises on 16th February 2023. The workshop was an educational event for various stakeholders aimed to provide training regarding implementation of POCSO in the educational setting. The resource person of the workshop was Dr. Nisha Grover (Psychologist and POCSO Trainer), who gave a detailed insight about POCSO, its ethical implementation, its loopholes and how to tackle them, among other issues. 

Session 2021-22

The Department of Economics and Psychology, St Xavier’s College, Jaipur organised an industrial visit to ‘Jaipur Rugs’ on 24th of November 2021. A group of 70 students from the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Economics and Psychology went for the visit along with the department faculty members. The visit was articulated in a very well manner in which the students visited the warehouse of ‘Jaipur Rugs’ SURANA, where they got a glimpse of the functioning of the organisation from the grass-root level. Then they went to the weavers and saw how the weaving is done in small houses of villages. And lastly the students visited the head office of Jaipur rugs to understand the organizational structure and also experienced the world famous rug show. It was a great experience for the students. 

Movie Screening and Group Discussion

The Department of Psychology conducted group discussions and moving screenings for the students to enhance the knowledge of students on contemporary issues.

Session 2021-22

On September 28, 2021, the Economics Society of the Department of Economics and Psychology hosted a movie screening of “David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet”, followed by a movie review competition. The documentary tells the experience of a 94-year-old naturalist in order to educate us about how drastically and fast the globe has changed throughout his lifetime. He explains the devastation that humans have caused in all sections of the globe, including the forest, sea, and air, over the last 94 years. 

Session 2020-21

Movie screening of the movie “The Social Dilemma” was organized on 28th October 2020 followed by an essay writing competition for the students. It helped the students explore how the Internet’s most popular products work on a basic business model of tracking users’ behavior in order to sell ads and induce addiction in a vicious cycle. Among the many issues the film touches on include how tech companies have influenced elections, ethnic violence and rates of depression and suicide. The Department also organised an online movie screening of A Beautiful Mind on 19th December, 2020 from 12:30 PM on Google Meet. The objective of this was not just spreading awareness but also helping students gain an insight about mental illnesses. The movie screening was followed by a movie review competition which was to be submitted by 23rd December, 2020. Out of the entries received, Nihar Vyas was adjudged the winner of the movie review competition.

Department Magazine- Cognizance

The first ever edition of the Department of Psychology magazine, “Cognizance” is due this session. Cognizance refers to knowledge or awareness. The aim of the magazine is to showcase different aspects of the world around us but from a psychological lens. This endeavour is spearheaded by the Departmental Student Body.

Department Student Body

The Department of Psychology will also highlight the unique skills and abilities of its students by providing them with leadership based opportunities. The creation of a department student body will enable development of teamwork, sharpening and sharing individual strengths, logistics based problem solving skills and growth of personal autonomy and industry. The Department Student Body will take the lead to represent the students of the department, and will essentially be their voice. They may identify areas of particular interest of the students, help curate experiences of relevance and help foster a healthy connection between the students and the faculty. Certificates will be provided on the basis of participation.
