Psychology Laboratory

Learning and development toward one's life goals require a supportive, stable, and stimulating psychosocial environment with access to adequate resources. The Department of Psychology Laboratory was established in 2020 to provide the students with the opportunity to stay updated with the various psychological assessments of human behaviour with the use of psychological testing for assessing personality, emotional intelligence, attitude and leadership among others. Moreover, the laboratory also comprises the necessary equipment for experiments on reaction time, memory, and forgetting among other human processes. It is fully updated with the demands of the University of Rajasthan Syllabus. 

Expert Lecture

Expert lectures enable the students to gain better understanding about the present day problems and their solutions from the experienced speaker. In the Session 2020-2021, the following expert lectures were organized by the department:

Living in the times of a Pandemic: Psychological Impact of Lockdown and Self Isolation by Ms. Mimansa Singh Tanwar, Clinical Psychologist, Program Head - Clinical Psychology and Mental Health Program, Fortis Healthcare, Gurugram on 19 September 2020.

Self Awareness: Knowing yourself by Dr. Sudhesh N.T. on 6 November 2020.  He is currently working as an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Christ University, Bangalore.  He helped identify one’s beliefs, values, and motivators in relation to others, also the stressors and how one reacts to them. He explained how to use SWOT analysis in our personal lives in intrinsic detail.

Connection between the Body and Mind by Dr. Raghav Shah, Consultant and Director, Department of Psychiatry and De-Addiction, Rajasthan Hospital, Jaipur on 16 January 2021. Dr. Shah elaborated on the strong connection between one’s body and mind through a detailed PowerPoint Presentation. He explained the meaning of mind-body connection and its physical and psychological aspects. 

Symposium

The Department of Psychology along with the Department of Economics organized a Multi-disciplinary Symposium to bring out and further refine the research potential of the students. The theme for this years’ Symposium was “Looking through Intermediate Lenses: Inclusive and Green Growth”. Dr. Aditi Sawant, Head, Department of Economics, St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, keynote speaker of the event, explained the need for private sector and the government to work mutually to achieve the goals of inclusive growth and also elaborated the opportunities available for developing an inclusive India by recognizing the key levers in the field of education, governance, energy and resources, healthcare, infrastructure and business model innovation. 

Synergy

Synergy is a national level, intercollegiate academic fest organized jointly by the Department of Economics and Psychology, which provides a platform for young minds to implement the theoretical knowledge of economics in a practical and innovative environment.
The Department of Economics and Psychology organized its annual fest 'Synergy' on January 16 and 17, 2021. This ninth edition of Synergy lived up to its benchmark with the theme appropriately being 'Virtualization of Ideas'. The event commenced with the illuminating words of the chief guest, Mr. Om Thanvi, Vice Chancellor, Haridev Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication, Rajasthan ILD Skills University (RISU) and Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer that enlightened the gathering about the Indian values and traditions The theme of conclave this year was 'Vocal for Local'. The panellists for the discussion were Mrs Manisha Jani, Director and Co founder, Indigreenz, Innovation, Pvt. Ltd., Mrs Saloni Sacheti, founder, Baansuli and Mr Manan Issar, CEO and founder, Piltover Technologies, Pvt. Ltd. who drew attention upon the importance of manufacturing and purchasing local objects in uplifting Indian Economy.

World Health Mental Day

The Department of Psychology at St. Xavier's College, Jaipur planned an interactive session and webinar on 9th October 2020 to celebrate World Mental Health Day. The webinar was conducted by the eminent clinical psychologist, Ms. Pradnya Deshpande, a mental health professional who has been working to promote psychological wellbeing for over 20 years. Keeping the WHO theme of the year in consideration, which is, ‘Mental Health for All’, the session invited students to submit the emotional problems faced by them anonymously and gave them a forum to discuss these problems with a mental health professional and encourage different perspectives of understanding the problem and brainstorm possible solutions. Through this interaction, the students found a platform to listen to solutions of seemingly insurmountable problems and empathize with problems being faced by their peers. Ms. Deshpande engaged the students thoroughly with her insightful tips of how to maintain positivity not just in these difficult times but throughout our lives, when we're faced with problems.

Movie Screening & Group Discussion

The Department of Psychology and Economics collaboratively conducts group discussions and moving screenings for the students to enhance the knowledge of students on contemporary issues. Movie screening of the movie “The Social Dilemma” was organized on 28 October 2020 followed by an essay writing competition for the students. It helped the students explore how the Internet’s most popular products work on a basic business model of tracking users’ behavior in order to sell ads and induce addiction in a vicious cycle. Among the many issues the film touches on include how tech companies have influenced elections, ethnic violence and rates of depression and suicide. The Department also organised an online movie screening of A Beautiful Mind on 19th December, 2020 from 12:30 PM on Google Meet. The objective of this was not just spreading awareness but also help students gain an insight about mental illnesses. The movie screening was followed by a movie review competition which was to be submitted by 23rd December, 2020. Out of the entries received, Nihar Vyas was adjudged the winner of the movie review competition.
